Theo Clarke MP for Stafford attended the Council of Europe to speak on the importance of increased humanitarian assistance and support for the people of Ukraine. Ms Clarke remains committed to helping the people of Ukraine. She also discussed this matter when she met with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis. At the Council of Europe in Paris, Ms Clarke also took part in the committee meeting on migration, refugees and displaced persons.
Ms Clarke continues to stand with Ukraine and she appreciates that many Stafford constituents want to be able to support people fleeing the war in Ukraine. The Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal is now open. The UK Government matched, pound-for-pound, £25 million of public donations to this appeal. Ms Clarke also welcomes that the Government has launched the Homes for Ukraine scheme. People in the UK, charities, community groups and businesses can now support people by offering a home to those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Thanks to the generosity of the British public, the Government has received over 100,000 expressions of interest from individuals and organisations so far through the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
